I got my associates in liberal studies from a community college in two years, then I transfered to a university.
Here are a few things I learned from that experience: 1) if you didn't do well in high school, spend some time at the community college getting up to college level on all subjects. Take remedial classes if you have to. If you jump into a university with poor writing and math skills chances are you won't do too well. 2) if you are planning on getting a STEM degree, transfer to a university ASAP or it will likely take you 6 years to get your degree, as the track for STEM degrees is meant to be 4 years, and you can't take any of the required major classes at a community college. 3) make
