| just and advisory hiembly helped his downfall. [IMAGE] Short-Term Causes: Source B was a very important short-term cause. The Czar needed the army to support him, without them he was nothing. When the workers went on strike in March 1917, the Czar wanted the army's help. However, he asked thearmy to crush the strikers using force and the army reused. Thiswas the turning point of the whole revolution. He managed to crush the revolution in 1905 because he had the army on his side, this time it was no use because they'd had enough of his reign. The fact that the Czar was not listening to the Duma and wasnot givingwhat the population wanted was a great help for his fall in 1917. Source E was also one of the most important points of the short-term causes. The whole point in the revolution was because the workers wanted better working conditions and more food and fuel. The Czar was not giving the workers what they wanted to the revolted. When the leaderof the Duma tried to tell the Czar that it was getting out of hand, Nicholas II just ignored him. Source F, the policereport. This really shows how bad the poverty in russia really was. it says that the mhi of the population was at present in a very troubled mood… an exceptional heightening of opposition and bitterness among wide sections of Petrograd. The prices were also rising and no-one could afford to buy food: 'the peasantry has no desire to sell it's grain and other stocks, fearing that they will only get the statutory price… as a result the prices are rising and goods are disappearing.' Food was not being sold because of the fear of low prices by the peasants leading to a disappearance of food. Time was running out for the Czar, sooner or later the country wasgoing to collapse.Source G, was probably the most important of the short-term causes. Rasputin was influencing the Czarina during the war was the Czar was at the Eastern Front. The Russians did not like Rasputin and especially did not like the thought of him running the country. Also the rumours of Rasputin having an affair with the Czarina and her four daughters were not doing the Czar any favours. However, the Czar himself was less influenced by Rasputin but he was friends with him. The points made in source I were because of the war. The Czarina was left in charge by the Czar and she did not like the members of the current Duma so she would not communicate with them. The food was not getting into the cities because it was not being met off the trains. This was the major part ofthe fall of the Czar. [IMAGE]After evaluating all the sources I have come to the conclusion that the Czar fell from power in 1917 because of all thepoints made in the sources. I think that the most important point was the war. After the other points mentioned built the fire, the war lit the fuse. If the Czar had not gone to the Eastern Front in 1915 he would still have had control over Russia. He needed to be in Russia to take care of the situation. He also needed to listen to what the Duma said. The Duma also needed to tell the Czar the truth about what was happening all over Russia. The Lincoln-Douglas Debates of 1858was a very influential event that occurred in American history and has much significance, eventill this day. The debates were in contest for the United States Senate seatin Illinois. The main topic involved in the debates was based around slavery andthe separation of the union because of it. Both Lincoln and Douglas refer to the U.S. Constitution in their remarks and state different opinions . |
