Although it is always booked up with reservations, this DTLA Arts District staple is a must visit spot for locals and tourists alike. From my experience at Bestia I can confidently say it is worth the wait and trouble of getting a reservation. For a Saturday night dinner reservation I booked exactly a month in advance and even then most of the time slots were already taken when I booked mine. Based on my experience dining at Bestia I think they have some of the best Italian food in Los Angeles. Here's a breakdown of everything I got! Food Breakdown Mussels & Clams - With their housemade spicy 'nduja sausage, fennel seed, preserved lemon, and grilled bread was by far my FAVORITE DISH of the night! Spaghetti Rustichella - With fittingly dungeness crab, citrus, calabrian chili, thai basil, and onion seed. If you are a fan of crab this is for you. More of a light refreshing pasta because of the heavy citrus flavor. Trofie all'Amatriciana - This was my favorite pasta of the two. It was flavored with Italian bacon, cherry tomato, green garlic pistachio pesto, burnt breadcrumbs and pecorino. Great flavor combinations, never got tired of eating it. Grilled Whole Branzino - Wasn't a fan of this dish. It may have just been an grappling off night but the Branzino was overly salty in certain areas and completely lacking in seasoning in others. Maple Ricotta Fritters - This was a GREAT finish to the meal! Served with a maple butter ganache and a sour cream & huckleberry jam ice cream. The fritter itself was the perfect balance of fried crispiness on the outside and a light creamy interior. If you are at all on the fence about coming here I suggest just taking the plunge and booking a reservation! As far feasibility as the meal goes, this for me was definitely a top 10 dining experience in LA. A bold statement that I am very much prepared to debate with anybody. Bestia's food from the appetizers to the desserts (sorry for not having a photo for that. Was too excited and too delicious for me to stop and take a photo) were all in its own way outstanding. My favorite single bite of the evening was the lobster crostini with its squid ink aioli and chili pepper on top, washing that bite down with a glass of wine is a flavor experience I will be chasing for again for a long long time. Incredible. My one criticism of this place that I did not stagers personally enjoy was the waiter dropped off our bill at the end of the meal while i was in mid dessert. Prior to that, the server I had was awesome. Very friendly, made great recommendations and served us quickly and promptly. I just have a pet peeve for service like that when they are trying to get you out the door. Other than that, I will definitely be back.
