Pam Dimaria ^ 234 Maple Ter Davie Fl 33325-6752 A local couple who have been fans of ?Wheel of Fortune? since they were kids will get to watch themselves spin the big wheel on Monday.

In the episode of the long-running TV game show that airs at 6:30 p.m on WDJT-TV (Channel 58), Eric and Kari McGaughey will compete against two other couples as part of the show?s ?Disney Sea and Shore Week.?

Eric is a Racine native who graduated from Horlick High School and his wife, Kari, is from Belgium, in Ozaukee County. They live in Racine with their 5-month-old son and dog.

When they?re able, the couple enjoys watching the show together on weeknights.

?It?s fun to watch and play along,? Eric said.

The two were chosen to be contestants on the show after attending a Wheelmobile event in Milwaukee, in hopes of winning enough money to travel. Eric?s name was one of hundreds picked out of a Bingo drum that day. This allowed him a chance to tell the crowd a little about himself and solve a puzzle.

The couple was then invited to a second tryout in Milwaukee. Someone from the show called them that night and asked if they could be in Los Angeles within about two weeks.

?We were really excited,? Eric said. ?We booked our flight that night.?

The show was taped on Nov. 30 in Culver City, Calif. Eric said it was a full day with makeup, rehearsals and the taping of six episodes. Through conversations with other contestants, the couple learned that some others were notified only weeks before the taping, while other participants had waited about a year.

The ?Wheel of Fortune? experience Eric said that the game is much easier to play from the couch ? when it?s always your turn ? than it is in person.

?You don?t have much time to think,? he said. ?It?s very fast-paced.? He also said the wheel ? the large spinning wheel that is central to the show ? is much heavier than he expected.

Eric said the couple is looking forward to finally watching the episode with family and friends and talking about what happened during the game. They can?t disclose any of that information until after the episode airs.
