ReutersHBO is catching some flak in the wake of comedian Bill Maher's crack about Denver Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow.Maher, who hosts the long-running HBO show "Real Time With Bill Maher," wrote a message on his Twitter account after the Broncos lost to the Buffalo Bills on Saturday."Wow, Jesus just f**ked #TimTebow bad! And on Xmas Eve! Somewhere ... Satan is tebowing, saying to Hitler "Hey, Buffalos killing them."Tebow had thrown four interceptions in his team's Christmas Eve loss to the Bills, which prompted Maher's remark.Tebow tweeted after the game: "Tough game today but what's most important is being able to celebrate the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ. Merry Christmas everyone GB2."(GB2 is a phrase Tebow has made popular that means "God Bless + Go Broncos," according to his official website.)And while Tebow did not respond to Maher, some of his fans are calling for a boycott of HBO, urging customers who find Maher's tweet offensive to cancel their

BEIJING A long-awaited government report said design flaws and sloppy management caused a bullet train crash in July that killed 40 people and triggered a public outcry over the dangers of China's showcase transportation system.A former railway minister was among 54 officials found responsible for the crash, a Cabinet statement said Wednesday. Several were ordered dismissed from Communist Party posts but there was no word of possible criminal penalties. The crash report was highly anticipated by the public. The disaster near the southern city of Wenzhou also injured 177 people and had triggered a public outcry over the high cost and dangers of the bullet train system, a prestige project that once enjoyed lofty status on a level with the country's manned space program.Regulations had required the report to be released by Nov. 20. When that date passed, the government offered little explanation, drawing renewed criticism by state media, which have been unusually s

ANNAPOLIS, Md. A report released by the Pentagon says the number of reported sexual assaults at the nation's three major military academies rose in the latest academic year from one year earlier. The Defense Department's "Annual Report on Sexual Harassment and Violence at the Military Service Academies" covered the academic year 2010-2011. It found there were 65 reports of sexual assault involving cadets and midshipmen at the U.S. Naval Academy, the U.S. Military Academy and the U.S. Air Force Academy. That's up from 41 reports in the prior year. The Pentagon can't conclusively identify reasons for the increases but said efforts to encourage more victims to report abuses could help explain the higher numbers.Defense Secretary Leon Panetta issued a statement that authorities are bidding to "eliminate sexual assault" from military campuses.

She said it was essential for the Arab League "to draw clear lines" regarding access to detainees, and be willing to speak out when those lines are crossed.SANA said the prisoners released Wednesday did not include those with "blood on their hands."Last month, Syrian authorities released 2,645 prisoners in three batches but activists and critics say thousands more who were picked

s dragging women protesters by the hair, stomping on them and stripping one half-naked in the street during a fierce crackdown on activists."This is a case for all the women of Egypt, not only mine," said Samira Ibrahim, 25, who was arrested and then spoke out about her treatment.Ibrahim filed two suits against the practice, one demanding it be banned and another accusing an officer of sexual assault. She was the only one to complain publicly about a practice that can bring shame upon the victim in a conservative society.A small group of women gathered outside the court building, holding banners. One said, "Women of Egypt are a red line."The three-judge panel said in its ruling that the virginity tests were "a violation of women's rights and an aggression against their dignity."The ruling also said a member of the ruling military council admitted to Amnesty International in June that the practice was carried out on female detainees in March to protect the army
